Driven by carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, China's paper packaging industry is accelerating its transition from traditional manufacturing to green intelligent manufacturing. According to data from the China Packaging Federation, the paper and paper products industry achieved cumulative export delivery value of RMB 79.39 billion in 2025, up 9.4% year-on-year, with robust export market growth providing new momentum for the industry's green transformation.
Industry data shows that paper packaging enterprises are facing dual pressures from volatile raw paper costs (accounting for up to 80% of total costs) and downstream e-commerce demand for "variety, small batches, and fast delivery," making traditional extensive development models unsustainable. Against this backdrop, digital empowerment and green transformation have become critical pathways for industry breakthroughs.
Notably, product carbon footprint accounting and carbon neutral certification are becoming "new thresholds" for paper packaging enterprises entering international markets. Several leading companies have taken the lead in completing product carbon footprint verification and obtaining third-party authoritative certifications. By proactively disclosing carbon information, optimizing production processes, and adopting renewable raw materials such as sugarcane paper, they are providing low-carbon footprint product solutions for international clients. Industry observers point out that as the EU and North American markets continue to escalate environmental compliance requirements for imported products, Chinese paper packaging enterprises equipped with carbon footprint accounting capabilities and carbon neutral certification qualifications will gain a first-mover advantage in international competition.
